Getting a Thyroid Biopsy at A.T. Radiology

What is an FNA?

Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) thyroid biopsies are common; more than 600,000 will be performed in the United States this year. When assessing thyroid nodules, many physicians refer their patients to a regional hospital. However, the same high-quality ultrasound-guided FNA thyroid biopsy can be performed far less expensively—and more conveniently—by A.T. Radiology doctors in an outpatient setting.

Preparing for an FNA

Prior to a thyroid biopsy, most medications may be continued. If conscious sedation is needed, you may be instructed to withhold any food, liquid or medication administered by mouth for 8-12 hours prior to the biopsy. If needed, we will provide you with specific preparation instructions prior to your visit.
